On August 27, 2025, the Joint Labour Union of the Imo State Water and Sewerage Corporation (ISWSC) paid a courtesy visit to the newly appointed Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Chizoba Justin Udegbe. The delegation was led by the Imo State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), who is also a staff member of the Corporation, Comrade Chigaemezu Uche Nwaigwe, along with the Joint Union Leader, Comrade Kenneth Ukaoha.
The purpose of the visit was to formally welcome Engr. Udegbe, familiarize themselves with his leadership, and commend the remarkable progress already recorded within the Corporation since his assumption of office. The Union leaders congratulated the MD/CEO on his appointment and acknowledged the rapid positive changes taking place under his leadership.
In their joint remarks, Comrades Uche Nwaigwe and Kenneth Ukaoha expressed sincere appreciation to the Executive Governor of Imo State, His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma, through the MD/CEO, for the immediate and impactful interventions in the Corporation. These include the restoration of electricity at the Otamiri Water Treatment Plant, the resumption of water distribution, and the enhancement of environmental sanitation—efforts that have contributed significantly to a more conducive working environment.
The Labour Union leaders encouraged Engr. Udegbe to adopt a consultative and inclusive approach in his administration, underscoring the importance of collaboration between management and labour. They also highlighted Governor Uzodimma’s labour-friendly disposition and expressed optimism that the new MD/CEO would reflect the same values in his leadership.
Furthermore, they commended Engr. Udegbe for his early achievements and humanitarian efforts, and pledged the full support and cooperation of the Labour Union in advancing the goals of the Corporation.
In his response, Engr. Chizoba Justin Udegbe expressed profound gratitude to the Union leaders for the visit and their show of goodwill. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Executive Governor to the repositioning and revitalization of the WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) sector in Imo State. The MD/CEO emphasized the importance of teamwork, discipline, and effective communication as key drivers of sustainable success.
He urged all departments to be diligent and proactive in discharging their duties, and stressed the need for mutual respect for departmental heads to ensure seamless operations. Engr. Udegbe also assured the Union of his readiness to maintain a harmonious working relationship and open lines of communication for the progress of the Corporation.
He concluded by once again appreciating Governor Hope Uzodimma for his visionary leadership and unwavering support for the development of the Imo State WASH sector.
Among those present at the meeting were: Mr. Bright Uzoukwu, Head of Administration, ISWSC; Comrade Ndubueze Nwachukwu, Chairman, AUPCTRE; Comrade Emenike Obiukwu, Chairman, ASCSN; Comrade Okwuchi Adiaha, Vice President, NCSU; Akunna Duru, Secretary, AUPCTRE; Comrade Chigozie Adimoha, and other distinguished Union representatives.
The visit concluded successfully with a group photograph taken with the Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Chizoba Justin Udegbe, for official documentation and commemoration.
