The World Bank team embarked on a comprehensive four-day mission to Imo State from September 23 to 25, 2024 as part of the Mid-Term Review (MTR) of the SURWASH Program. The World Bank team representative Chigozie Nsobundu (Sanitation Technical Assistant) stated that the principal aim of the Mid-Term Review was to assess and improve the work plans of the Implementation Agencies (IAs) to ensure they align seamlessly with the SURWASH objectives for efficacious project execution.
During this evaluative process, the team scrutinized the six-month, one-year, and three-year plans, facilitating the successful implementation of the project.
Sanitation Technical Assistant Chigozie Nsobundu underscored the critical importance of delineating activities that can be accomplished within a six-month timeframe to mitigate the risk of overwhelming workloads. Moreover, she accentuated the necessity for robust advocacy directed at pertinent stakeholders to secure vital funding, which is essential for the state’s access to safely managed water.
Additionally, the Ministry of Water Resources and the Implementation Agencies (ISWSC, RUWASSA, and ISSTOWA) presented their detailed work plans, encompassing the Program Expenditure Framework, budgetary performance, financial management efficacy, environmental and social (E&S) considerations, procurement performance, and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) effectiveness. This comprehensive presentation aimed to provide strategic guidance and bolster the program’s efficacy in achieving its objectives.
