The meeting convened to evaluate the progress of the SURWASH program, with a focus on identifying challenges, proposing enhancements, and formulating strategies for the initiative’s advancement. Engr. Udegbe, the Imo State Project Coordinator, invited the SURWASH Officers—including the SPIU Communication Officer, Environmental and Social (E&S) Officers, Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officers, Technical Officer, PIAP Focal Person, and the Director of Water from MWR—who participated in the Mid-Term Review (MTR) held in Abuja from September 10th to 13th.

These officers were tasked with sharing their insights derived from the MTR findings, encompassing encountered challenges, notable accomplishments, and defined responsibilities. The discussions underscored the need for adjustments and restructuring within the program, as emphasized by both the officers and the heads of the Implementation Agencies (IAs).

Key topics addressed included the baseline survey, sanitation design, monthly reporting, work plan reviews, screening processes, documentation, procurement management, local government area training, duty scheduling, capacity building, and enhancing stakeholder engagement. Additionally, the development of the E&S implementation work plan and the imperative for accurate SPIU coordination in the SURWASH project were central to the dialogue.

In conclusion, the Project Coordinator elaborated on the necessity for personnel development and improvement at both the departmental and state levels. The overarching aim of these discussions was to foster collaboration and synergy among all stakeholders, thereby ensuring the effective realization of the work plan objectives for the SURWASH program in Imo State.
