VISIT OF THE FPIU CONSULTANT ON MTR MISSION FOR SURWASH PROGRAM

Mr. Hassan Kida, the consultant for the FPIU MTR Mission, undertook a pivotal visit to the SURWASH office and implementing agencies in Imo State on July 15th and 16th, 2024. The purpose of this visit was to conduct an interactive meeting focusing on evaluating the performance, identifying areas for improvement, ensuring effective delivery, and refining the implementation strategy of the SURWASH program in Imo State, aimed at achieving its defined objectives.

During deliberations, the consultant emphasized the meticulous execution of the program’s work plan according to established standards. He underscored the critical need for community sensitization and advocacy to facilitate proper implementation. Implementing agencies highlighted their requirement for increased technical support and capacity building to enhance project execution. Emphasis was placed on the significance of a rigorous procurement process and the engagement of competent contractors for the successful implementation of SURWASH initiatives.

Ideas and suggestions were contributed by heads of implementing agencies, including Engr. Peter Chukwuma, Engr. Chibuzo Ezeigbo, and Mr. Chika Edom, aimed at propelling the SURWASH program forward. The consultant stressed the importance of establishing accurate baselines and advocating for high-quality construction work aligned with the standards outlined in the work plan.

In conclusion, the consultant pledged to incorporate the ideas, contributions, and suggestions put forth during the meeting into the documentation process for the effective implementation of the program. In a vote of thanks on behalf of the implementing agencies, Engr. Henry Adiruo, Head of the Water Services Department, commended the consultant for his visit and affirmed their commitment to diligently work towards meeting the set objectives of the SURWASH program and advancing the WASH sector.

The meeting culminated in a successful event, commemorated with a group photograph to symbolize the collective dedication towards the thorough documentation and comprehensive implementation of the program.
