NG-SURWASH: IMSU Water Scheme to Undergo Rehabilitation, as ISWSC’s New Managing Director Condemns Theft and Vandalism
In rapid continuation of the implementation of the Performance Action Plan (PIAP) activities and the PDO for the concluding quarter, the acting Managing Director of Imo State Water and Sewerage Corporation (ISWSC) Engr Peter Chukwuma has inspected the Corporation’s water facility at Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri.
The on-site inspection took place early today, as plans are in motion for the rehabilitation and restoration of the water supply system serving the students, staff, and management of the institution.
The two-horsepower submersible pumps, a vital component of the water scheme, are set to undergo rehabilitation to ensure efficient functionality. Unfortunately, the water scheme fell victim to yet-to-be-identified hoodlums who vandalized and stole part of the essential cables required for electrification and operation of the scheme.
Engr Peter Chukwu, the newly appointed Managing Director and CEO of ISWSC, expressed condemnation for the criminal activities that targeted the Corporation’s facilities. During the inspection of the scheme, Engr Chukwu, accompanied by Engr Henry Adiruo the Head of the Department of Water Services and other members of the Rapid Response Team of the Corporation, took note of the damages caused by the intrusion. He also noted that the integrity of the water tank and the distribution of pipe network will be assessed as part of the rehabilitation process, while insinuating the possibility of generating power supply from the school’s electrification system.
To address the power supply issues affecting the water scheme, a 27kva generator set will be serviced, and the generator house is mapped out for complete facelifting. These measures aim to enhance the overall reliability of the system and mitigate disruptions in water supply to users.
While commending Governor Hope Uzodimma for his reform in Imo WASH sector, Engr Chukwu emphasized the Corporation’s commitment to swiftly rectify the damages and fortify the water infrastructure against future incidents. The comprehensive rehabilitation plan indeed underscores ISWSC’s commitment towards ensuring a sustainable and uninterrupted water supply for the university community.
