Two suspects (names withheld) have been apprehended following an alert of their criminal activities on the property belonging to Imo state government within the premises of Imo Government Girls’ Secondary School, (IGGSS), Owerri.

Around 1 PM, on Friday, these two young suspects were caught pants down while stealing and vandalizing the public property. It was reported that two young men who came to harvest a bunch of plantains in the area drew the attention of the school’s security outfit to the theft and vandalism. The suspects were detained at Imo Government Girls’ Secondary School, Owerri, when the principal, Junior Section, (name withheld), without hesitation, immediately alerted Imo State Water and Sewerage Corporation (ISWSC) authorities, who promptly dispatched security personnel and some management staff to the scene.

Law enforcement has been notified of the incident, and information available to us said the suspects are now in the custody of the police, as the matter is currently under their investigation.

Meanwhile, recall that Orji Booster Station of Owerri Regional Water Scheme faced significant challenges between 2016 and 2018, including the unfortunate dismantling and carting away of installed 300kv transformer substation, 350kva generator set, and 3 numbers 55 Kw booster pumps. This incident occurred in the aftermath of the retirement of several staff members.

Imo State Water and Sewerage Corporation (ISWSC) commends the vigilance of the Imo Girls Secondary school officials and their quick response which prevented further damage to government property.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in maintaining the security and integrity of public properties. ISWSC and the police continue to encourage citizens to report any suspicious activities promptly to ensure the safety and well-being of public properties.
