In dynamic continuation towards the committed implementation of Performance Improvement Action Plan (PIAP) activities and the PDO for Q2, six staff of Imo State Water and Sewerage Corporation (ISWSC) represented the Corporation in World Bank Technical Mission Workshop. Hosted at the prestigious Straton(Bon) Hotel in Abuja, this two-day event gathered key stakeholders and experts in the water and sanitation sector.
The workshop, driven by a trio of objectives, aimed at empowering states’ utilities in their journey to implement their PIAPs, deliver invaluable insights on pertinent utility topics, and identify gaps hindering the execution of the PIAP.
Day 1 on 30 August 2023 saw a comprehensive exploration of key topics such as presentation and reflection on the PIAP of the Utilities; Policy, Institutions, and Regulation (PIR) sector governance; tariff setting and regulation; utility governance; business planning and financial management; and customer orientation.
Day 2 delved into the nitty-gritty of utility management, covering topics including asset management, non-revenue water, operation and maintenance, data collection and reporting, improving accountability and transparency, and PIAP expectations.
In his closing remarks, the National Project Coordinator, represented by Engr Illia Musa, emphasized the urgency of action, urging every state to accelerate their efforts to achieve their set 2023 targets.
ISWSC, with a full delegation of six staff led by Engr Henry Adiruo, emerged as a beacon of dedication at World Bank technical mission. As the echoes of this successful event resonate, it is evident that the NG-SURWASH World Bank mission has set a powerful precedent for water utility nationwide. At the event, Engr Henry Adiruo, who led other ISWSC staff to the workshop, paid tribute to the unwavering support of the governor of Imo state Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, recognizing his pivotal role in driving forward these critical PIAP initiatives in the state, while appreciating the Managing Director and CEO of the Corporation for his resilient and insights towards the successful implementation of the PIAP activities and the PDO since the inception of NG-SURWASH in Imo state.
