In significant continuation of the implementation of the Performance Improvement Action Plan (PIAP) activities and the PDO for Q2, Imo State Water and Sanitation Corporation (ISWSC) recently convened a two-day meeting that brought together representatives of the Federal Project Implementation Unit (FPIU), the Federal Ministry of Water Resources (FMWR), Clean Nigeria Campaign (CNC), ISSTOWA, RUWASSA, among other key stakeholders.

The meeting which followed a successful two-day sanitation marketing training organized by ISWSC focused particularly on reviewing the state’s sanitation status and devising strategies to enhance its implementation.

This two-day sanitation marketing training session laid the groundwork for the forthcoming execution of the sanitation action plan, underlining the ISWSC’s commitment to equipping all relevant staff with the tools they need for success.

During the session with the FPIU, the FMWR, CNC and other key players, participants diligently evaluated the Open Defecation Free (ODF) roadmap alongside with the specific sanitation landscape of Imo State, acknowledging their strengths and identifying areas for improvement. A central focus of the discussions was the necessity to bolster the capabilities of Imo State Water and Sewerage Corporation (ISWSC), Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA), and Imo State Small Towns Water and Sanitation Agency (ISSTOWA) within the Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (SURWASH) framework.

In a survey response, these three implementing agencies provided insights into their respective WASH activities and their locations in the state. Their combined efforts and initiatives are a testament to the dedication and synergy that underlie the state’s commitment to achieving ODF status and promoting sanitation across all designated communities.

As the meeting concluded, it was evident that the discussions had not only reinforced the significance of the ongoing initiatives but also paved the way for a more coordinated and impactful approach to sanitation improvement. With the continued commitment of ISWSC, FPIU, FMWR, CNC, Hon (Mrs) Theodora Ngozi Igboaruka, SA/TA to the governor on WASH; and others, Imo State is poised to make substantial strides in its journey toward enhanced WASH for all.
