CLEAN NIGERIA CAMPAIGN TEAM VISITS IMO

In line with the Program Development Objectives (PDO) of the NG-SURWASH program, a team of Clean Nigerian Campaign and the FPIU visited Imo State for a 2-day working visit on 15th – 16th August 2023. The essence of visit was for the assessment of sanitation status in the state and also to strengthen sanitation marketing as well as it’s strategies.

The Team comprised of the SSP&M Officer of the FPIU Juliet Iordye and the representative of the Clean Nigerian Campaign from the Federal Ministry of Water Resources (FMWR) Kogbara A.I (AD Hygiene) and Okolo .C (ACSO).
The team was hosted by staff of the Imo State Water and Sewerage Corporation (ISWSC) in collaboration with the staff of Imo State Small Town Water Agency (ISSTOWA) and staff of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA).
The meeting which focused on assessing and reviewing the status of sanitation inputs was also used as a means to develop strategies for the implementation of sanitation in the state and ways of improving sanitation marketing.

This sanitation marketing training was essential in order to fortify the foundations crucial for the implementation of the Sanitation Action Plan (SAP) and equipping the appropriate personnel for the job. The two-day session also featured the evaluation of the Open Defecation Free (ODF) Roadmap by the team. The SWOT analysis was also carried out as a necessity for adequate assessment.

The duo also stressed on how to improve and strengthen the IAs Sanitation Framework towards achieving Open Defecation Free Status in the State.

Presenting the survey, the three Implementing Agencies presented verbal reports on the efforts and investments that have been put in by the state government and the staff of IAs. Speaking on behalf of the IAs, the Heads of ISWSC, ISSTOWA, and RUWASSA established a working synergy between the IAs to strengthen them achieve an ODF status in the state.

The team commended the SA/TA to the Governor on WASH Hon ( Mrs) Theodora Ngozika Igboaruka Uchenna and the staff of the three IAs on the work done so far and encouraged the continuous synergy to pave more ways for giant strides.
