A significant emergency meeting was convened by the Managing Director and CEO of Imo State Water and Sewerage Corporation (ISWSC) Engr Emeka Celestine Ugoanyanwu for the key management staff. The meeting, held at the Corporation’s Conference Hall, saw the participation of heads of departments and units, signifying the gravity of the issues under discussion.
Acknowledging the gathering, the Managing Director and CEO of ISWSC, expressed his deep concern over recent trends in staff attendance and punctuality. While stating that the meeting was convened to collectively chart a more constructive path forward for the Corporation, Engr Ugoanyanwu specifically addressed the nonchalant attitude observed on the so-called sit-at-home Mondays and routine lateness on other workdays.
During the session, the Managing Director encouraged an open dialogue, inviting each management staff member to voice their perspectives regarding the absenteeism on the previous Monday and tardiness on Tuesday. In response, the management staff individually acknowledged their shortcomings, apologizing for their actions. They pledged to usher in a new era of punctuality and dedication to work, promising to cascade the importance of these values to their subordinates in their respective departments and units.
Engr Ugoanyanwu used the opportunity to also underscore the significance of adopting Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), emphasizing that the Corporation should, by now, commerce the full operationalization of the ERP system comprehensively across all functions in continuation of the implementation of the Performance Improvement Action Plans (PIAPs) for Q2. He further encouraged staff to actively engage with the Corporation’s official website and various social media platforms, highlighting the availability of opportunities within the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) sector for capacity building, irrespective of their academic backgrounds.
Addressing the practical side of operations, Mrs MaryTeddy Ononogbo presented a request for streamlined data management within the ERP, including staff access to photocopiers for official printouts.
As the meeting suggested ways to remedy this challenge, the Managing Director expressed his disappointment with the absence of new staff details within the ERP, adding also that computer-literate staff should be able to have direct access to the system.
During the meeting, a correspondence from ATC Nigeria Wireless Infrastructure Ltd was reviewed. The letter sought permission for space to install a Base Transceiver Station (BTS) on ISWSC premises. Following deliberations, the meeting reached a consensus to grant approval to ATC Nigeria. The Corporation also decided to send a letter to the company for a formal meeting to address crucial matters pertaining to their proposed installation.
The emergency meeting showcased the Corporation’s commitment to addressing internal challenges, fostering professionalism, and exploring growth opportunities. The management’s proactive approach in handling these issues reflects their dedication to further enhancing the services provided by Imo State Water and Sewerage Corporation.
