In a swift and commendable response, Imo State Water and Sewerage Corporation (ISWSC) has successfully replaced the vandalized and stolen water supply infrastructure, ensuring the prompt restoration of water supply to the World Bank region of Owerri, Imo State.

The incident which involved the vandalism and theft of a crucial key pipeline on July 31, 2023, sent shockwaves through the community and raised concerns about the security of water supply infrastructure across the state. However, ISWSC took immediate actions to address the issue, culminating in the restoration of the supply just few days after the vandalism occurred.

The repair efforts were carried out diligently, resulting in the successful reinstatement of the damaged pipeline and the stolen equipment. The repair process was completed on Sunday, 6 August 2023, marking a significant achievement in the face of adversity.

Engr Emeka Celestine Ugoanyanwu, the Managing Director and CEO of ISWSC, expressed his profound gratitude to Senator Hope Uzodimma,  Governor of Imo State, for his swift action and approval of funds to facilitate the restoration. The governor’s commitment to ensuring the well-being and water security of the state’s residents has been instrumental in expediting the repair process.

Engr Ugoanyanwu emphasized that the collective effort of the ISWSC team supervised by Engr Henry Adiruo,  Head of Water Services, along with the support and funding from the state government, was pivotal in overcoming the challenge and restoring water supply to the World Bank region. He reiterated the Corporation’s dedication to providing reliable and clean water to the people of Imo State.

The repair and restoration serve as a testament to the resilience and determination of both  ISWSC and the Government of Imo State in the face of adversity. The incident also underscores the importance of safeguarding critical water supply infrastructure and the role that swift collaboration and proactive measures can play in ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of essential services.

With water once again flowing through the rehabilitated pipeline, the community can now breathe a sigh of relief, thanks to the concerted efforts and prompt actions that have reaffirmed the commitment to addressing challenges and upholding the well-being of the residents of Imo State.
