In continuation of the implementation of 2023 Performance Improvement Action Plans (PIAPs) activities and the PDO of NG-SURWASH programme, the Managing Director/CEO of Imo State Water and Sewerage Corporation (ISWSC) Engr Emeka Celestine Ugoanyanwu joined ISWSC Brand Ambassador Miss Deborah Uchechi Uchenna to champion a cultural advocacy. This aligns with ISWSC’s vision of aggressive Social and Behavioural Change Communication (SBCC) Campaign to promote African culture and positive traditional values.
The event which took place at Imo Int’l Exhibition Centre, Owerri, was to create further awareness on the danger of neglecting good cultural values as well as unnecessary intrusion of foreign culture in the society that leads to cultural clash instead of harmony. The Managing Director, who was represented by the Communications Desk Officer Mr Christopher Ononukwe emphasized the need for families in Igbo land to champion good cultural norms that would enhance peaceful coexistence and prosperity. Speaking further on the theme “Embrace Your Roots Cultural Advocacy”, Engr Ugoanyanwu advised Igbo people not to allow their language and culture to go into extinction, stressing that Igbo goes beyond being a language but an identity that promotes communal trade and commerce. While stating the relevance of Igbo in SURWASH, he noted that the language has been used successfully to foster cooperation and business transactions as evident in the sector.
The Managing Director opined that if Igbo is allowed to vanish among human means of communication it could result in the end of the race on Planet Earth.
The highpoint of the occasion was financial support by the Corporation’s Managing Director to the organizer(s) of the event.
