In continuation of the implementation of 2023 Performance Improvement Action Plans (PIAPs) and the PDO of NG-SURWASH, the Managing Director/CEO of ISWSC Engr Emeka Celestine Ugoanyawu has inaugurated the Corporation’s Policies, Institutions and Regulation (PIR) Management Subcommittee.

In his opening remarks, the Managing Director/CEO of ISWSC explained that, “To trigger disbursement under DLIs 2 of SURWASH, every state must prepare and approve a PIR Plan (Year 1 & 2) and subsequently demonstrate targets against the APTs of that plan which collectively constitutes the Development-Linked Results (DLRs).”

While charging the Subcommittee to be resilient and professional in their mandate, the Managing Director/CEO added that the review of the PIR is a foundation to all other activities of the SURWASH which is Programme for Result (PforR), hence the subcommittee members are expected to identify and address all gaps in the state’s PIR framework, as it affects urban water supply and urban sanitation services.

Engr Ugoanyanwu therefore urged the Subcommittee to regularly liaise with the ministerial committee on PIR and subsequently debrief the Management of ISWSC accordingly. He concluded by advising the members to make quality inputs that would easily improve the SURWASH even in subsequent years, while directing the SPIU officer present to convey the message of the inauguration to the state.

The Chairperson of the Subcommittee, who spoke on behalf of other members of the team, Mrs Assumpta Okorie thanked the Managing Director/CEO of the Corporation for finding them worth to serve, adding that the the inaugurated Subcommittee would do their best to produce better results as they discharge their functions. She also said that the Subcommittee members would work as team and liaise with necessary players as their mandate provides.

The members of Subcommittee on the Review of PIR that were inaugurated include Mrs Assumpta Okorie, Chairperson; Mr Ajoku Chisom Brian, Secretary; Engr Onyeji Boniface, Member; Engr Henry Adiruo, Member; Mrs MaryTeddy Ononogbo, Member; Ms Pamela Nwakama, Member; Mrs Charity Obinna, Member; Mr Eustace Onyealisi, Member; and Ms Lillian Oledinma, Member.

It is noteworthy that PIR is a significant component to achieving the SDGs because it can help governments amidst growing shocks and stresses in the water sector.
