The Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria ISPON led by the State chairman, Dr Martins Uzoma FISPON, MNSE, MNIWE today 13th November 2020 paid courtesy visit on the Managing Director/CEO of the Imo State Water & Sewerage Corporation Engr Emeka Ugoanyanwu FNSE FNIWE in his office at the Corporation’s head office Owerri. Dr Uzoma intimated the MD of the activities of the institute and called for collaboration towards achieving SDGs. He thanked the State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma for positively changing the narratives of the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene sector in Imo State after more than 8 years of abandonment. He advised the Managing Director to Sustain the current tempo of activities in the sector and assured of the preparedness of the institute to collaborate with the Corporation. Responding the MD Engr Emeka Ugoanyanwu assured the Institute of the Corporation’s readiness to collaborate with the institute not only in area of Safety but in finding solution to problem of Sanitation in the state especially fecal sludge management and massive pollution of the states fresh water bodies. He informed the institute that fecal sludge is a public health hazard that requires urgent attention to save residents from impending Pandemic. This impending danger informed the State governments current efforts to construct fecal sludge treatment plants across the State. He used the occasion to invite the members for a facility tour of the Otamiri headworks of the Owerri Regional Water Scheme to see the ongoing massive rehabilitation works being carried out by the Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma. Finally the MD accepted his nomination for the award of Safety ICON and assured the Chairman that staff of the Corporation would be encouraged to join the institute.
